Rookie Mistakes - Who Are YOU!?

When DDAT members make a mistake on stage, the ones who didn't make the mistake usually say, "That's it, I'm going to see if Hello Dollface has any openings"... But the more common response is a smirk to the person who failed...A smirk that means "Who Are YOU!?" (mike gets a lot of these)

There was a video that was released in 2013 of a small man criticizing a beginning trumpet player. The video is very entertaining because of what the little man has to say. There are his great big moments and his down right put downs. We apologize for the language in the video! (Forward to 1:47 in the video to hear "Who Are YOU!?")

The biggest kick DDAT gets from the video are the words "Who Are YOU!?"...The video basically shows harassment to a beginning level talent...and...that is the way DDAT uses it to one another.

Hang on to your horses...because no one in DDAT likes to hear their mistakes...especially when revealed to everyone! HAHA

Mike McCluhan

It's hot...the set list clearly states "Opener" as the very first tune...(You would figure Opener means a show opener right?) Apparently not Mike...the show starts....Nick clicks 4 counts...and...

Mike starts Girl from Nanaioma...(the very last song on the set list)

The first sound was horrible, the band had to restart!!!!...The audience had a confused look on their face. haha

Mike...

WHO ARE YOU!?

Delbert Anderson

Now...Delbert always complains about the set list because of the amount of playing he has to do. If he plays a long time, he wants to stay away from the tunes that have higher notes..(well isn't a pro someone who doesn't have to worry about what tune comes next?) haha

Texas...Delbert plays in front of the A & M students...he makes the gesture that he is tired...DDAT all agree that it's time to give Delbert a work out. The call out Te'se - a tune that starts off with a strong trumpet solo...

Delbert cracks all his notes...(some students might have thought - who is this dude, why is he playing for us?)

The sound lacked...it was bad...haha

Delbert...

WHO ARE YOU!?

Nicholas Lucero

Every drummers worst nightmare is to drop his sticks during a performance. That should tell it all...

We were at one of the most important gigs of our life...Normal Live Show, but the audience contained jazz festival booking agents. It was a show to impress for sure...

Nick plays well, until given a solo...ALL eyes on him...and "click, crack, ding"

One stick flew off stage...everyone saw...weeeeaaaak...

To make it worst, someone grabbed it and handed it back to him...it was so obvious...haha

Nick...

WHO ARE YOU!?

Chris Bidtah

Chris and Mike share the same problem...Except with Chris...he thinks he rapping the right song and it turns out it's not.

Depending if Chris remembers to bring his mic (a 70% chance), we usually call off tunes on the spot on our last set.

When DDAT calls out "Groove Warrior", Chris starts "JB Blues"...or...DDAT calls "The Move" and Christ starts "DDAT"...it's a disease we haven't found an antidote for...(oh wait we did, it's call memorize your tunes) haha

Chris...

WHO ARE YOU!?

Of course it's all fun and games. (until someone quits the band or gets fired)

by the way...we are going to have open bass tryouts in late July and early August - kidding

90% of the time, the audience doesn't know a mistake has been made (unless a drum stick hits you)

We all learn from our mistakes, especially the rookie ones...

But the next time you see or hear a mistake, please don't hesitate to yell out "WHO ARE YOU!?"

Who Are YOU moment - a moment in time when your Pro becomes Rookie

*What are your "Who Are YOU!?" moments?*

*Please share in the comments below!*

Until next time! Next locked in show at the Church of Holy Spirit - Gallup, NM August 6th, 2017 @ 4pm!

Great string! Fun expression in recall of such "just smile," impromptu memories within live music. Artistry thrives by such (unually unexpected) "gems".
